About event
Popular music allows you to immediately identify a culture. It is born and flourishes in the vicissitudes of life: parties, heartbreaks... and also in each person's encounter with themselves. It is no surprise that, since forever, many composers who pursue the written musical tradition – which tends to be more formal and reflected – have appropriated it; whether as a source of inspiration or as a starting point for different flights. This is what Béla Bartók and György Ligeti did, evoking their origins in territories that are now part of Romania. This is what Luciano Berio did, in songs that take us to regions spread across the globe. Vasco Mendonça gives voice to words that cross the Atlantic in the poems of Tracy K. Smith and Terrance Hayes.
