About event
IT HAS NEVER BEEN LIKE THIS BEFORE, SEIZE THE OPPORTUNITY! We warmly welcome young people, parents, and schoolchildren interested in contemporary history and closed/closed corners of the world to the exciting, gap-filling lecture by teacher Bence Dobos, the screening of the film Half-Republic, and an exclusive conversation with the director!
WHEN: May 16, 2026 15:00
WHERE: Liszt Institute, Journal Reading Room (Rytířská 27, Praha 1)
North Korea 1945-2026
Kim Il Sung - Kim Jong Il - Kim Jong Un: the Kim dynasty has practically ruled the Korean peninsula since 1945 northern part. Their cruel dictatorship has survived the changes of the world for the last 80 years, without their system being softened one iota.
A part of the population is languishing in labor camps or re-education camps, another part is starving, and a privileged section lives the restricted life of the privileged, cut off from the world, in Pyongyang, the capital of the regime. North Korea is one of the last communist dictatorships on Earth, where a special caste system distinguishes people from one another. Where there is no internet and where the regime's propaganda dominates everything.
Why is there still no peace between the two Koreas? What is a DMZ? What was the World Youth Meeting in Pyongyang in 1989? How did the regime stay together after the collapse of the communist bloc? If you are interested in history, come to this exciting presentation and find out the answers to the questions! After the performance, we will watch a rare Hungarian film about North Korea, Half-Republic, and for a few minutes the director László Benda (Panoráma, ex MTV) will be our guest online to talk about his experiences in North Korea!
The presentation is in Hungarian.
