About event
“Formulations from the Rock Niche” – A literary evening with Gans Verlag. With Agnieszka Lessmann, Ákos Szolcsányi, Christina Kunze & Alexandru Bulucz
Aga is looking for the murderers and for himself, David tells his story as it could really have been, and the poetry tries to formulate words from the rocky niche about life. Three authors present their newly published books at Gans Verlag.
Agnieszka Lessmann tells a migration story from Poland via Israel to West Germany, how the silence of the survivors becomes a burden for the descendants and how the main character Aga searches for herself in the land of the murderers. Ákos Szolcsányi tells the story of one of the most influential figures in human history, King David, in a rousing narrative stream and develops a carefully composed counter-parable based on biblical texts. Alexandru Bulucz presents the wealth of his diverse essays from the last ten years, poetry commentaries and interviews, which repeatedly revolve around poetry, literature, life and the European East.
That evening, Agnieszka Lessmann, Ákos Szolcsányi, Alexandru Bulucz and Christina Kunze read from their new books or translations and talk to the publisher Ulrich Leinz about the topics of their new publications.
Alexandru Bulucz, born in 1987 in Alba Iulia, Romania, is an author and translator. He was awarded the Deutschlandfunk Prize at the Bachmann Competition in 2022 for his prose, and the Bingel Prize and the Hölty Prize in 2024 for his poetry. He works as a journalist for online portals, newspapers and radio. In the winter semester of 2025 he will hold the Anna Vandenhoeck guest lectureship for literary criticism at the University of Göttingen.
Agnieszka Lessmann was born in Łódż in Poland and grew up in Poland, Israel and Germany. She wrote numerous radio features and radio plays. Her radio play “Cobain's Ashes” (2024) was produced by SWR and broadcast by various broadcasters, while “Mörder” was named “Radio Play of the Month for October 2011” by the Academy of Performing Arts. The German Literature Fund will support Lessmann with a work grant in 2025.
Ákos Szolcsányi, who grew up in Hungary, is a poet, writer, service delivery specialist and translator. He studied Hispanic studies, wrote about the reception of Garcia Lorca in Hungary and published several volumes of poetry and prose in Hungary. In 2021 he was a scholarship holder of the Berlin Literary Colloquium.
Christina Kunze studied Hungarian studies in Berlin and Budapest. She has been translating literature and non-fiction texts from Hungarian since 1996, for example Sándor Márai, Edina Szvoren and László Végel.
Admission: €8 / reduced €6
