About event

Duration: 4 hours

Queer people and families have long been part of society - and yet they often encounter insecurities, exclusions or discriminatory structures in clinics, practices or advice centers. This training offers space for knowledge, reflection and practical impulses in order to be able to approach queer families in the health system in a mindful, inclusive and discrimination-sensitive manner.

You don't need any previous knowledge: everyone who wants to further develop their professional attitude and build queer-sensitive skills in caring for queer families is welcome. Together we will take a look at the diversity of queer realities and family forms, clarify basic terms around gender and sexual diversity and shed light on how language, attitudes and structures can be adapted to do justice to all patients and parents.

A particular focus is on practical feasibility in everyday working life: How can I communicate inclusively even under time pressure? How do I design medical history forms, documentation or my external communication to be sensitive to discrimination? How do I create a safe space – even in an interdisciplinary team?

The training raises awareness of emotional and body-related aspects that play a role in supporting queer people and families. It strengthens your professional knowledge as well as your communicative confidence when dealing with queer clients within the health system.

In addition to theoretical input, there is space for exchange, reflection and concrete questions from practice.
