About event
If you ask your friends about female classical music composers, you will find that most of them quickly falter on this topic. With her passionate femmage, star cellist Raphaela Gromes wants to change this and, together with musicologist Susanne Wosnitzka, embarks on a journey of discovery to the long-forgotten and still underestimated heroines of music history.
So who were Amy Beach, Florence Price and Henriëtte Bosmans? How did the forgotten women, some of them lesbian and bisexual (including from Jewish families), live who had to fight tirelessly for their creativity and freedom? Did they compose differently than their male colleagues? What can we learn from them today?
These are just some of the questions that Raphaela Gromes devotes herself to with great passion and which she brings to life with a mixture of in-depth knowledge and insights into her life as a musician.
Fortissima! is a refreshing look at female music history - and a charming invitation to engage with outstanding female composers and their fantastic music.
On September 12, 2025, a new double album by Raphaela Gromes with sonatas and cello concertos by female composers was released under the same title - a tribute to the heroines of music. www.raphaelagromes.de
