About event

Did you know that when French troops occupied Prague in the middle of the 18th century, the King of France stayed in Prague Castle for almost four years? Or that Prague's Denisova and Legerova streets are named after French Slavists who studied Slavic languages, literature, history and culture? These researchers defended the Czech national idea and thus played an important role in the creation of the first Czechoslovak Republic in 1918.

In the first part of the guided walk, we will explore Hradčany and Mala Strana. We will look for places that bear witness to the connection between Prague and France from the Middle Ages to the present day - from John of Luxembourg as a regular at the French court to French President François Mitterrand, a secret supporter of Czech dissidents.

The guide of the commented walk in English is Johan Crabeels. The profit from this event goes to support the activities of the non-profit organization Open House Praha, z. ú.
