⚙️ The apparatus ⚙️
The director and playwright Katharina Schmitt is returned to the text of the writer Franz Kafka after the production (Studio Hrdinů, 2018). In the new project, the apparatus focuses on the phenomenon of the audience, the relationship of the observer to reality and its responsibility for its view. The production is based on the story of Franz Kafka in a disciplinary camp. The text tells the story of a researcher who comes to the prison colony in an unspecified state. Here, after many years, the first stranger becomes a witness to the execution of a convict. An officer who cares for the execution machine is familiar with the researcher with the course of execution and the decline of their importance as a new commander. During the interpretation of the witness, the officer realizes his situation, and at the moment when the machine stucks in front of the researcher's eyes, he decides to dismiss the convicts, lie down in the machine and ask the researcher to assist him in execution. The officer suddenly becomes a convict, and the researcher's seemingly non -participated view is burdened with unexpected responsibility. Theater adaptation of the story is a study of several apparatuses - the apparatus of the exemplary machine, the power apparatus in the prison colony and, last but not least, the apparatus of the perspective and the ways in which it interferes with the events. The penal colony becomes an archaeological site of views.
