Frauen in Politik und Sozialdemokratie
Women in politics and social democracy
Event by: SPD International
Location: Kurt-Schumacher-Haus, Müllerstraße 163, Berlin - Mitte
About event
Motivation & Background:
The social democratic parties in Europe and beyond have often failed to generate female heads of government from their circles. Even if social democrats lead the government in Finland, Denmark and New Zealand, women have been appointed as heads of government in important countries (e.g. Germany, UK, Japan), particularly by the bourgeois and in Italy even right-wing extremist parties. How does this fit with the self-image of social democracy, and why are the conservative parties successful in this area? Is it a question of intra-party democracy? We would like to hear reports from other countries (from you), as well as from social democratic Berlin politicians who we have invited to the debate.
Speakers:
Juliane Seifert (former State Secretary)
Stefanie Elies (Gender Coordinator of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation)
Elke Ferner (Member of the Executive Board of the German Women's Council, Former MP)
Moderation: Elisabeth Humbert-Dorfmüller (co-speaker SPD International)
The discussion will take place hybrid. An access link will be sent to everyone registered shortly before the event.
After the event, SPD International invites you to a reception with international Christmas specialties.
