The last of a family wiped out by a blood feud falls unsuspectingly in love with the daughter of the enemy family. Protected by the law of hospitality, he escapes with his life, but has to endure the most hair-raising dangers and chases before he can finally marry the girl and put an end to the feud. (filmdienst.de)

The story about the enmity between the “McKay” and “Canfield” families was inspired by the real family feud of the McCoys and Hatfields, which took place in the Appalachians between 1878 and 1891.

The film is a family film: Buster Keaton's father Joe, his then wife Natalie Talmadge and Buster's son Joseph Talmadge Keaton as the one-year-old Willie McKay.

The effort for credibility is also reflected in the authentic design of the film, which is set in the 1830s. What's particularly striking is the true-to-original replica of one of the first steam locomotives in regular service, The Rocket. Because of its ambitious image design, “Our Hospitality” is one of Keaton's most beautifully photographed films.

Second feature film by Buster Keaton, one of the most delicious comedies in film history, full of ingenious gags, breathtaking artistry and fairytale-like poetry. (Lexicon of International Film)
