Javanese gamelan music has been closely linked to the royal courts of Central Java for centuries. Finely woven melodies and the floating sound of the gong characterize this unique tradition, which is still maintained today in the palaces of the Sultans of Surakarta and Yogyakarta.
The Lindhu Raras group - consisting of professionals and amateurs from all over the world - has been meeting for many years in the House of Indonesian Cultures in Berlin to practice and lively carry on the art of courtly gamelan music from this region.
