About event

It is July 28, 2024, and two female Krkonoše mountaineers are making their mark in the history of (not only) Czech alpinism. On this memorable day, Lena Erlebachová and Karolína Grohová became the first Czechs in history to reach the top of the technically demanding Pakistani eight-thousander Gašerbrum I (8,080 m). All this under very demanding conditions in the so-called light expedition style without artificial oxygen and without any help of high-altitude carriers or security of mountain guides. How difficult was the whole six-day climb for them? What difficulties did the weather cause them? What important thing did they "manage" to lose along the way? And why don't they let each other down?

Lenka Erlebachová is a former representative in alpine skiing, ski alpinist and mountaineer, and outside the mountains she is a real estate agent. In addition to Gasherbrum I, he has also climbed the 6,000 Lobuche (6,119 m) in Nepal, Chopicalqui (6,354 m) and Alpamayo (5,947 m) in Peru, as well as important alpine peaks such as Matterhorn, Weisshorn, the north face of the Ortler or the north face Grossglockner. She also completed the most demanding ski mountaineering crossing of the High Tatras, the so-called transition of Vlad Tatarka.

Karolína Grohová is a leading Czech ski alpinist, mountaineer, athlete and also a primary school teacher. She represented the Czech Republic in cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018. She has a lot of experience from world mountains and alpine peaks, she has climbed Pakistan's Gasherbrum II (8,035 m), China's Muztag Ata (7,546 m), Peru's Chopicalqui (6,354 m) as well as an attempt to climb Broad Peak (8 051 m), which ended just below the summit at an altitude of 8,000 meters.
