About event
Wreath laying in Lichtenrade
Nationwide, the victims of war, tyranny and terrorism are remembered on Remembrance Day. This year, the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district office is organizing a memorial event at the Evangelical Churchyard in Lichtenrade, which is being supported by students from the Ulrich-von-Hutten-Gymnasium.
District mayor Jörn Oltmann and district councilor Stefan Böltes will lay a wreath at the memorial for the war victims on Sunday and say words of remembrance.
On the occasion of To mark the 650th anniversary of Lichtenrade, the district office is cooperating with the local churchyard and the Ulrich-von-Hutten-Gymnasium this year. As part of religious education, students deal with Remembrance Day and the culture of remembrance in the Lichtenrader churchyard in advance. During the event, they will recite poems and self-written texts and present and honor the biographies of the victims buried here as well as their fates.
The Remembrance Day by the German War Graves Commission was originally introduced to commemorate the victims of the First World War and later also the Second World War. Today, Remembrance Day is seen as a day of reminder for reconciliation, understanding and peace.
Registration is not required.
