The War of the Spanish Succession from a titular perspective with special reference to the title of Duke of Burgundy.
The War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) was the biggest conflict of the first half of the 18th century. The main cause was the dispute over the succession to the Spanish throne after the death of the last Spanish Habsburg, Charles II. In addition, the title of Duke of Burgundy, previously used by the Spanish Habsburgs, but now claimed by the French Bourbons, was also a subject of dispute. The author of the lecture, Petr Nohel, Ph.D., is a genealogist and heraldist, specializing in succession law. At the Catholic Theological Faculty in Prague, he leads a genealogy-heraldry course for those interested in life-long education and a university of the third age.
