About event
On October 27, 2025, Amsterdam is celebrating its 750th anniversary. On the occasion of the celebration, George Maas portrayed people last year with an object that is typically Amsterdam. This could be anything: a street sign, garment, book, bicycle, flag, photo, artwork or another object that someone had had or had made for a long time.
It was important that the object immediately had a link with Amsterdam and that the person portrayed felt an emotional bond with it. This resulted in 60 meaningful images about people and their connection with the city.
A selection of the photos can be seen from 31 March to 4 April in the Arti Arti Arti, daily from 12:00 to 17:00 (after 5:00 pm for members only). Admission is free.
About the origin of Amsterdam:
On October 27, 1275, 'Amestelledamme' was first mentioned in the Tolprivilege, which was granted by Count Floris V. The privilege granted gave the Amsterdammers who were already acting at that time the right to transport their goods through the Graafschap Holland without paying toll. It is a fact that Amsterdam actually only received city rights in 1300 or 1306 and was therefore younger than was hired in 1975.
