For more than eleven years, Ukrainian society has defended its right to self-determination and freedom against the Russian war. Despite death, destruction and constant threats, it remains able to act - through impressive commitment, civil society networks and international support. But resilience and social cohesion must be strengthened, in Ukraine and throughout Europe!
The event aims to raise awareness of the current everyday realities in Ukraine. What does it mean to live under occupation? November 11, 2025 marks the third anniversary of the day of the liberation of Kherson. How did the occupation change life in the city? What responsibility do other European countries have towards Ukraine and what can they learn from Ukraine? And how can politics, civil society and the public find ways together to live up to this responsibility?
We cordially invite you to discuss these questions with our panel guests on November 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Catholic Academy (Hannoversche Straße 5, 10115 Berlin).
The welcome address will be given by Oleksii Makeiev, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Federal Republic Germany
Our guests are two representatives of Ukrainian organizations who work locally according to the “Third Places” concept. Such places are open meeting places outside of family and work that create space for encounters, exchanges and shared commitment. They strengthen local communities, promote civil society initiatives and offer people an opportunity to actively participate in social life - especially under the conditions of war.
