About event

*** FOR ENGLISH SCROLL DOWN ***

In the morning after an exuberant party, two siblings, a sister and a brother, are left together, whose strong childhood bond was broken by a tragic event twenty years ago. As adults, they understand that the system that traumatized them has broken down, and with a newfound sensitivity and ability to see things in context, they look for ways to move on and live on.

In Gisèle Vienne's Extra Life production, further explores different possibilities of perception of time and space. Against the background of this event, which turned the lives of the main characters upside down and brightened their feelings, the director and choreographer comes with a completely new way of perceiving time, where the past, present and future, memories and imaginations intertwine and unfold simultaneously. A distinctive element of the Extra Life production is the choreography based on the themes of the dancers themselves.

As a means of expressing the hierarchy of individual levels of perception, the director uses a set of collages, the creation of which was also participated by the performers Katia Petrowick, Adèle Haenel and Theo Livesey . The production speaks to the audience with a completely unique stage language, the basic compositional element of which is feelings, from which thoughts and the spoken word are formed.

*** ENGLISH ***

At the end of a night spent partying, a sister and a brother find each other. Twenty years ago, when they were still children, they were united by a fusional link that was to be torn apart by a dramatic event. Acknowledging the collapse of the system which provoked this traumatic experience, the two adults, endowed with a newly-found sensibility and capacity for analysis, draw up a range of actions and possible future.

In Extra Life, Gisèle Vienne pursues her investigations into systems of perception. By developing and unfurling the experience of this life-changing moment, this opening-up of the senses, the choreographer invents a form in which the different strata of the present experience come into contact: past, present, anticipated future, memory construction, and the imagination. An extremely dense choreographic piece, Extra Life was devised via the articulation of propositions from the performers themselves.

In order to formulate the perceptive hierarchies, Gisèle Vienne makes use of a system of collages, developed in conjunction with the performers Katia Petrowick, Adèle Haenel and Theo Livesey. We are confronted with a stage language of a unique kind, in which the sense-led experiences nourish possibilities for the thought and spoken word.
