About event
New Yorkers Gogol Bordello, a band led by Ukrainian musician Eugene Hötz, are returning to Portugal in October, in a long-awaited reunion with the Portuguese public.
It was in the late 1990s that Eugene Hötz moved from Kiev, a city where he was born and raised to New York. This change boosted the creation of Gogol Bordello, a project that founded after several years playing by the bars and clubs of Lower East Side, a neighborhood of Manhattan known for welcoming the city's main cultural movements. Of influences that results in a mix between punk, folk and gypsy music.
Since their debut album, Voi-La Intruder, the band has already collaborated with names like Rick Rubin and Steven Albini, having shared stage with numerous artists, from System of a Down A Dropkick Murphys, Rancid and Regina Spektor. Bordello have been quite vocal in their support for Ukraine and tirelessly defended peace and solidarity. In collaboration with institutions such as New Ukraine and Artedopomoga, they promoted charity concerts in which they joined musicians such as Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu, among many others. In addition, they also collaborated with Bernard Sumner (Joy Division, New Order) in an Angelic Upstarts version of “Solidarity”, whose recipes reversed to the recovery of Ukrainian soldiers. In October this year, the New York band finally returns to Lisbon and Porto for two concerts in their own name. The reunion is scheduled for October 11 at Lisbon live in Lisbon, and on October 12 at the Hard Club, Porto.
The first part will be in charge of Bob Vylan, Duo London that since 2017 Rock, Rap, Punk and Dance Music, in an explosive concert that has both chaos and calm.
