Gonggong 225088 is the trio of Korean-American guitarist, improviser, and composer Han-earl Park, consisting of Argentinian saxophonist, composer, and visual artist Camila Nebbia and Greek drummer, improviser, and sound artist Yorgos Dimitriadis.
The music is alternately light as a feather and heavy and spiky like a bucket of rusty nails; it is contradictory and ambiguous. Leaps into '90s HatHut pastiche are followed by trucker-in-a-space-vehicle rumbles; slow crawls of irony-free "Bells 'n' Smells" sound art are followed by the rapid-fire twists, turns, and turns of mutated free funk. Gonggong 225088 find overlapping, time-traveling all-you-zombies guitar gestures, stompbox-assisted saxophone-punk ventriloquisms, and hive-mind metallophone creatures wandering across the stereo field.
“Fluid, pliable motion… The synergy between them is electrifying…” — Corey Mwamba (Freeness, BBC Radio 3)
