The Natural Science Club in Brno, the Institute of Vertebrate Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Moravian Regional Museum invite their members and supporters to the lecture cycle 2024/2025
🦍 Mountain gorillas are, thanks to Dian Fossey's story, Gorillas in the Mist, among the most famous animals threatened with extinction. Currently, their numbers are increasing and it could be said that conservation activities regarding mountain gorillas have been successful. But is the mountain gorilla population really out of danger of extinction? Our research team is dealing with parasitic disease in mountain gorillas living in the rainforests of equatorial Africa. We want to find out what infections they suffer from and why in recent years they die from common infections more often than before. In the lecture, you will learn what is really a threat to mountain gorillas and how tourism can surprisingly contribute to their protection.
