About event
✨ This is the first from Southeast with Love Special in the Kleine Zaal! Graziëlla Hunsel Rivero, Amsterdam Southeast 'First Lady of Jazz', sings music from 'The Grand Ladies of Jazz': Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday. The now classic songs of these 'Grand Ladies' still live on and are a wonderful example of how music connects generations and cultures. Graziëlla is also introducing up-and-coming talent tonight: the young singer-songwriter Naomi Bright. ✨

The jazz classic broken hearted melody sung by Sarah Vaughan in 2011 changed the musical world of the versatile singer-songwriter Graziel Hunsel Rivero. Jazz became her great love! It is not for nothing that Graziëlla Hunsel is called Amsterdam Southeast 'First Lady of Jazz'. For ten years she has been the driving force behind the Zojazz Lounge, a live jazzevent with food and drink, entirely in the style of the legendary New York Cotton Club. In the meantime, she is working on realizing ZOJazz Stage, a new Jazz and World Music stage with rehearsal house in Southeast. But Graziëlla is also spreading its wings outside of Southeast. For example, she produced two seasons of the music theater show The Grand Ladies of Jazz and played her One-Woman show The Jazz in me. In 2018 she played in The Passion and she is one of the ambassadors of the Red Light Jazz festival. With Graziëlla Hunsel Rivero Sarah Vaughan, she goes back to her source of inspiration within Jazz tonight.

"A maddening beautiful concert," wrote NRC Handelsblad when the live registration was released on CD after years. At her death, The New York Times wrote: "A singer who brought" Operatic Splendor "to the performances of Standards and Jazz. Ella Fitzgerald, 'The First Lady of Song', was in the Concertgebouw no less than eleven times in the 50s and 60s. With popular standards such as April in Paris, Angel Eyes, Lullaby of Birdland and Love for Sale, the American queen of jazz was enormously loved in the Netherlands. Dinah Washington had a short but successful career as one of the last American divas of jazz and blues, with hits like What a Diff'rence a Day Makes and Mad About the Boy. Finally, Billie Holiday is counted as one of the best jazz singers of all time because of her swinging and quirky way of singing, often with heartbreaking traits as a result of her turbulent life. Songs such as Strange Fruit and God Bless The Child are classics.

The talented Half-Brazilian singer-songwriter Naomi Bright combines Latin Pop, romantic soul and the irresistible grooves of Samba and Bossa Nova. In 2023 werd Naomi geselecteerd voor het rondreizende festival Popronde en in 2024 kwam haar EP Histórias de Amor uit.
