About event
A trip to Grossglockner is a great way to start with an adventure with Alpine peaks for experienced mountain tourists. Climbing on Grossglockner will provide a lot of experiences, fantastic views and the taste of a real high -mountain trip!
Grossglockner is the highest peak of Austria with a height of 3798 m a.s.l. It is located in GlocknerGrup, a mountain subgroup of high Taurów, a part of the central Alps. Grossglockner is the second largest peak of the Alps. The degree of difficulty of the easiest way to the top, which we will climb, is determined to PD+ where PD means "a bit difficult". The main tip was first captured on July 28, 1800.
The characteristic shape of the GrossgloCkner peak, reminiscent of the pyramid, consists of two vertices - Grossglockner and Kleingglockner. They are separated by a small, narrow pass called Glocknerscharte.
At the top of Grossglockner there is a cross with a mass of 350 kg, called imperial, set on the 25th anniversary of the wedding of Franciszek Józef and with Elżbieta Wittelsbach (Sissi). The cross was brought to the top in parts and assembled there. Ludwik Chałubiński made the first Polish entrance to Grossglockner with guides in 1884 or 1885.
Grossglockner belongs to the crown of Europe.
