About event
We invite you to the screening of the film Hannah: Buddhism's Untold Journey in Prague at the Bio Oko cinema in Prague 7. The screening is part of the accompanying program to the exhibition Buddhism Diamond Paths: 30 years in the Czech Republic and 50 years in the West (November 26 - 4.12. in the meditation center in Na Maninách Street).
Hannah: Path to Freedom (in the original Hannah: Buddhism's Untold Journey) is a riveting documentary directed by Adam Penny and Marta György-Kessler that has been screened in forty-two countries since 2014.
Hannah Nydahl is introduced as a young member of the wild and idealistic hippie community in Copenhagen and we follow her from there to Kathmandu, where she and her husband Ole went on their honeymoon in 1968. It was there that they met on the 16th. Gyalwa Karmapa - the first consciously birthing lama of Tibet, who changed their lives forever. The film shows Hannah and Lama Ole's determination to bring Buddhism to the West.
Since 1972, when the 16th Karmapa asked Lama Ole and Hannah to establish Buddhist centers in the West, we follow this courageous, determined woman as she traveled tirelessly between Asia and Europe, translating, interpreting and teaching. Together with Lama Ole, she also traveled behind the Iron Curtain for pupils from Poland and Russia, later by train over the Trans-Siberian highway from Moscow to Vladivostok or South America, where both spouses were even kidnapped by guerillas at one point.
Film offers insight into the timeless values of Tibetan Buddhism through the story of Hannah and Lama Ole, their ability to reach thousands of people and bring wisdom into their lives, fearlessness, compassion and joy.
