About event
In 1998, on the occasion of the new production of Henze's King Hirsch at the Komische Oper Berlin, we plunged into work on his Voices almost without thinking. Looking back, one can still feel dizzy given the enormous organizational and instrumental tasks that a performance of this work entails... but naivety and inexperienced actions sometimes help: the master present was satisfied!
More than 25 years later, Hans Werner Henze's 100th birthday is upon us and with it the opportunity to do it even better, again under the direction of Vladimir Jurowski!
With this work, Henze created a new form of song recital. Especially because of its choice of text, it is still, or better yet, very current again! Originating from Henze's biography of his early years, which he spent in a fascist-dominated home, the work is primarily rooted in his political and social commitment and the associated attitude that determined the path of his life right up to the end. He has achieved his goal of “writing political songs using means that go beyond what Eisler, Weill and Dessau had achieved!”
