The story of Hansel and Gretel is one of the most famous fairy tales in the world. It tells about courage, sibling togetherness and how to overcome even a very hostile world. In our production - an opera in three acts, however, the classic story of the Brothers Grimm meets the present.
Engelbert Humperdinck's beautiful music creates a magical musical world, combining magnificent orchestral power with playful melodies. In our rendering, the well-known fairy-tale forest turns into a symbol of a world in which man is increasingly moving away from nature. The gingerbread house is no longer just a sweet attraction - it turns into a colorful world of advertisements, fast food and shopping malls, which entices but can be a trap at the same time. Janko and Marienka thus find themselves in a maze of consumerism, from which they must find a way out.
Modern scenography and video projections connect the fairytale story with today's age of social networks, advertising and excessive consumption. The production thus offers entertainment for children, but at the same time brings a gentle reflection for adults.
The message of each fairy tale is the victory of good over evil - in our case, we are trying to express a parallel with today's world with the aim of preparing children for the "adult" world.
