About event

We invite you to an extraordinary memorial day dedicated to the personality of Vlastimil Harapes (July 24, 1946, Chomutov – May 15, 2024, Prague), dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, actor and one of the most prominent figures of Czech ballet art, who would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. Vlastimil Harapes was ceremoniously laid to rest in the Vyšehrad Cemetery, the final resting place of the most important personalities of Czech culture and public life. The tombstone from Prachatic diorite was created by the sculptor Jaroslav Urbanek.

This exceptional event will be followed by a commemorative meeting HARAPES — A Tribute to the Legend of Czech Ballet, which will commemorate his extraordinary artistic career and personal contribution. The Lucerna cinema will be shown from 3:30 p.m. a program composed from a lecture by Mgr. Lucie Dercsényi, Ph.D. (choreographers, dance critics and publicists) about life and artistic legacy. This will be followed by a debate with family, colleagues, friends and a screening of Martin Kubala's documentary Vlastimil Harapes: Extraordinary Lives.

We cordially invite you to this event to honor the memory of an artist who fundamentally influenced the shape of Czech ballet and inspired several generations of dancers and spectators.
