About event

✨ A unique concert awaits you on April 25th at 8:00 p.m. in the atmospherically unique Church of the Resurrection in Vienna.

You can hear enchanting soundtracks from world-famous animes such as "Howl's Moving Castle", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro" by the greatest modern Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi. We invite you to immerse yourself in the world of magical music, accompanied by a colorful performance by the contemporary orchestra Mystery Ensemble. Fun for the whole family is guaranteed.

During his long career, Hisaishi has worked on music for films, anime, computer games, television and advertising. Another highlight of his career was the musical design of the 1998 Paralympic Games in Nagano. Hisaishi's best-known works can be heard, among others, in the cult films by Takeshi Kitano and in the anime by Hayao Miyazaki.

The brilliant creators Hisaishi and Miyazaki in particular harmonize perfectly with each other. It remains a mystery whether Miyazaki's films achieved genius through Hisaishi's music or Hisaishi's music through Miyazaki's films.

An unusually beautiful concert in the atmospheric interior of the Church of the Resurrection on a cozy spring evening!

Joe Hisaishi is one of the most famous Japanese composers. He released his first album, “Information,” in 1982. A year later, Isao Takahata recommended that the young composer Hisaishi write the companion album to Hayao Miyazaki’s manga “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.” Miyazaki was so impressed by Hisaishi's work that he invited him to compose the music for his film. Hisaishi's work on Nausicaä made him famous. In gratitude, he worked on all of Miyazaki's subsequent films.

Hisaishi received a record number of awards (four) from the Japanese Film Academy in the Best Film Music category. Three of these awards were for the music in Takeshi Kitano's films: "Sonatina" (1993), "The Boys Are Back" (1996) and "Fireworks" (1997). He also composed the soundtracks for Kitano's films "Scenes by the Sea" (1992), "Kikujiro" (1999), "Brother of the Yakuza" (2001), "Dolls" (2002) and "Yamato" (2005).
