About event
Brno Observatory and Planetarium in cooperation with the CEITEC research center https://www.ceitec.cz/ He cordially invites you to a cycle of lectures for the general public dedicated to researching the most complex human body. We look forward to seeing you :-)

A cycle of separate lectures (September - December 2025) brings a varied view of the current topics of neuroscience - from biological aging to brain and consciousness. You will learn how the brain works in different situations and how it can be examined by modern methods. The series connects top research with practical applications and shows that the brain is still full of mysteries-and question marks.
----- September 2025, 6:00 pm brain structures, so on the basis of markers from blood and methylation of DNA. You will learn how to affect biological aging in adulthood mutation in mitochondrial DNA and how it affects the mental health of the mother during pregnancy. You will also find out whether the speed of biological aging is more or less stable or whether it changes during life.
prof. MUDr. Irena Rectorová, Ph.D. dopamin. These changes could not be captured for a long time with the help of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. Currently there are MRI techniques that can capture changes in specific cores of the brain stem in a very early phase of the disease and allow individuals to divide into groups with different types and manifestations of the disease.

21. October 2025, 18:00
Head full of question marks: on brain research 2/4
Ing. Radek Mareček, Ph.D. It turns out that this activity remains about 50 to 100 ms in an almost unchanging configuration and then switches very quickly to another configuration. This phenomenon is called microstals of brain activity. Are these kinds of thinking atoms from which our consciousness is formed? Is it possible to reveal something interesting about the analysis of microstavs? These and similar questions will be offered the answers that the current scientific research brings.
Mgr. Luboš Brabenec, Ph.D. And can you improve memory or attention? Non-invasive brain stimulation is neither sci-fi nor magic! We can not only measure the brain activity today, but also change and show how magnetic and electrical stimulation is used in neuroscience research.

11. November 2025, 18:00
Head full of question marks: About brain research 3/4
RNDr. Jan Fousek, Ph.D. Can we use them to improve health care and how does it differ from artificial intelligence? In the lecture we set out for the digital world of models and simulations from individual neurons to digital twins of the whole brain and show how they help us to deal with the fascinating complexity of the human brain.
MUDr. Pavel Filip, Ph.D. Differences associated with aging or brain diseases. You will learn why this "small brain" is key not only for body coordination but also for learning and cognition, and what impacts it has when this biological computer is "stuck".

2. December 2025, 18:00
Head full of question marks: About brain research 4/4
Mgr. Monika Fňašková, Ph.D. Are the consequences of stress even in the following generations? The lecture will present the results of the research of the long -term impact of stress in the Holocaust survivors or civilians in the war in the former Yugoslavia and their descendants.
Ing. Michal Mikl, Ph.D. Brno for 25 years. What has changed over that time and what remained the same? The lecture will not only reveal the general principles of functional MRI, but will focus mainly on the development of the method over the last quarter of a century. He will play in the hall of the large planetarium (so -called digitarium) with a capacity of 189 seats. Admission is always 150 CZK. We look forward to seeing you :-)
