About event

Theatrical stories from life in a panel housing estate.

HOMO PANELLUS (Panel Man)

You never enter the same apartment twice.

"I am in every window of this block of flats. We play in this window. I watch my neighbors from this window every day. In that place, after returning from the party, I smoke the last cigarettes. My dinner just burned on this one. What is going on in the veiled ones? I am made up of all those windows. I break down into everyone. Do you see me?”

Robo finally wants to do something big, but there's something so big in his head that he can't get it out. Mária returned to her native estate for a new film. Although teacher Olga seems very old, her computer is part of something important. Anton, a descendant of nobles, searches the estate for a lost past. Martin, a successful doctor, is discovering that he would like to experience something else besides work. The manager Irena is not here yet, because she values her freedom so much that she cannot belong anywhere. And the fragile panels of Petržalka stand firm in the world of collapsing certainties and silently absorb their interwoven stories.
Theatrical satire with elements of real stories from life in the largest panel housing estate in Central Europe, on the border of three states, once divided by an iron curtain, on the spot of a former village and concentration camp, on the site of the largest inland Danube delta.

The production is created with the help of documentary theater procedures. It is based on archival research, interviews with historians and theorists, and especially with residents of Petržalka and panel housing estates in the surrounding countries. Just like the author's text, Fero Király's original music and Diana Strausz's scenography work with authentic records and found materials.
Mass panel construction, started at the end of the sixties, offered typical housing to millions of people in our countries. Several generations have already grown up in panel houses, mostly in housing estates. Typical panel apartments create an environment for social equality and reflect a certain kind of social utopia. But the material and their construction are as fragile as this utopia. According to the plans, the block of flats were supposed to bring people a better present and future. Meanwhile, several generations also lived the past in them. Will this construction's past be carried away by the equally fragile utopia that gave birth to them?
