About event
517. Conversations about Prague
Lecturer Michal Plavec
Jan Plischke studied engineering, but his passion was photography. During two voyages on September 28, 1905 and May 13, 1906, he took a series of "illuminated pictures" (colored slides), some of which are preserved in the Archives of the National Technical Museum. These are the first ever images of the capital city from a balloon. In both cases, the second Czech balloon Prague was piloted by František Hůlka. In addition to the Holešovice exhibition grounds, Plischke also captured, for example, the sewage treatment plant in Bubench, the Letná under construction with the Rudolf Bridge and the Charles Bridge in the background, Kadetka under Prague Castle, Prague Castle itself, Císařský Island with Pelc Tyrolka in the background, as well as several towns and cities outside Prague. Interestingly, even the Prague balloon was preserved in the collections of the National Technical Museum.
