About event
🎞️ This year it has been exactly 80 years since the tossing of atomic bombs for Japanese towns of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as 80 years since the surrender of Germany and Japan and the end of the 2nd World War. For this occasion, we have prepared two unique images for you that you will be able to see at Double Feature.
📽️ The pictures of war and threads are dramatic pseudo -documentaries, capturing the explosion of the atomic bomb dropped to the UK and the likely consequences of the global nuclear wars. Both films were so shocking at the time that they were either forbidden, or the TV stations refused to broadcast them, so viewers could see them for many years after their original release.

War Game:
Documentary drama describing the explosion of the atomic bomb dropped by the Soviet Union for a small town in South Britain scared the BBC's management so much that it refused to broadcast it. The film could only be watched by the British public on television in 1985. In 1967 it was introduced only briefly in cinemas. Even so, it was enough to win the Academy Award for the best documentary act of the year. The basic feature of Watkinson's semi -documentary, authentic style has become shots imitating the form of black and white weekly. The game for war is an example of the author's ability to create a complex, impressive work that does not avoid confrontation. Watkins himself says: “In this film, I was interested in the contradiction between the fact and the pseudo -ity that the media is created. I ask: Where is the truth? Film material with demonstrations of real conversations. It captures the likely consequences of the global nuclear war on the UK. The film takes time from a few weeks before the attack, up to 12 years after the attack. It has a storyline and main characters, but it is processed in a documentary form - accompanied by a commentator and sometimes we see statistics in the film. In a naturalistic way, it captures all aspects of nuclear disasters - from demostration before the war, through the attack, destruction, dying, famine, illness, nuclear winter to the uncertainty of children who grew up after the war. The film shows the failure of society and the overall collapse of civilization. Threads was withdrawn after his first performance and was not allowed to project in the UK for a long time.
