XII. year of the International Discussion Forum on Democracy and Human Rights
Date: 18.-20.11.2025 (Tuesday-Thursday)
HUMAN FORUM is an established international discussion forum on democracy and human rights. Since 2014, he has been working in Banská Bystrica with topics that resonate with the public, academic and civil sectors. It is a space for building partnerships for local, regional and international democratic communities, a place of education, a platform for open debates, support for democracy, tolerance and respect for human rights.
HUMAN FORUM 2025 connects the civil sector and the academic community with representatives of the public, private and religious spheres from home and abroad.
We bring three diverse days of discussions, round tables and workshops, which are covered by a single thematic key - Strengthening democracy through cooperation. At a time of increasing uncertainty and challenges for civil society, HUMAN FORUM 2025 calls for a renewed commitment to democratic resilience, cooperation and shared responsibility. In the context of increasing pressure on NGOs, changing political conditions and social polarization, this year's forum will focus on building meaningful connections between civil society, academia, public institutions and the private sector.
The forum will explore ways in which sectors can work together to promote democracy, asking the fundamental question:
"What can we do for each other to strengthen democratic values and institutions?"
Through interactive discussions and expert panels, we will address key thematic areas:
Defending civil society and human rights - How can NGOs overcome current challenges and promote civic engagement?
Governance and public trust - How can public institutions and politicians work with civil society to increase transparency and trust? What are effective approaches to preventing violent extremism and radicalization in society?
Science, research and democracy - How can academic institutions and researchers contribute to solving the challenges facing democracy in the 21st century?
Resilient communities and inclusion - How to strengthen social cohesion and involve marginalized groups in democratic dialogue?
Private sector and social responsibility - How and why should the private sector contribute to the promotion of democratic values and civil society?
Media, culture and digital challenges – The role of independent journalism, culture and digital literacy in protecting democracy.
Despite the challenges we face, HUMAN FORUM 2025 wants to be a space for hope and solutions. It is a challenge to connect, collaborate and act – because the future of democracy depends on the partnerships we build today. Join us in Banská Bystrica and let's look together for ways to strengthen democracy and create a more inclusive society.
