About event
The anthology People like us aims to present contemporary Latvian literature in all its diversity, with thematically and stylistically diverse short stories, experimental texts and excerpts from novels, often dealing with people from the margins of society. In addition to the torsos of obscure stories, narratives conceived from memory and psychologically tense moments, the collection also includes short stories dominated by absurd humor or minimalistic poetic moments.
The anthology includes prose by a total of eleven Latvian writers, whose texts two generations of Latvians.
The conversation with translators Ondřej Muron and Anna Sedláčková, who also compiled and prepared the anthology for publication, is moderated by Josef Miškovský. Samples will be performed by actor Libor Stach.
The show is part of the Days of the North 2024 festival on the theme of the periphery.
The event is organized by Skandinávský dům and Nakladatelství Karolinum.
Literary evenings in the dramaturgy of the editors of the magazine Prostor in the HYB4 Reading Room are realized with the financial support of the head of Prague, the Ministry of Culture and the State Culture Fund of the Czech Republic.
