π IAN SWEET (10:00 p.m.)
(Indie rock - Los Angeles, US)
IAN SWEET has been the source and solution to many of Jilian Medford's deep anxieties. But today, two years after her first album Shapeshifter, Jilian Medford faces this reality with surprising optimism on her new album Crush Crusher. Medford decided to make this project a solo endeavor once again (as she had done back in the day in Boston's DIY scene) and took the opportunity to compose some of her most thoughtful songs and most emotionally analytical to date.
In writing Crush Crusher, Medford set out to explore her own issues of self-image, self-respect, and worth, as well as the responsibility that she felt towards others. The album's first song, "Hiding", was one of the first she wrote for the album while living in a freezing Brooklyn apartment during a winter break in the middle of a work schedule. Exhausting tour. In this song, Medford discusses an interpersonal relationship that fell apart due to his inability to feel completely comfortable sharing all elements of his personality with someone.
Nevertheless, an attitude full of Hope shines through in "Hiding" and in his songwriting throughout the album, with lyrics that embrace life's obstacles and make them a little less scary.
