About event
A participatory piece with Krump dancers.
Who owns the stage? – The dance piece I Can’t Help It by Janne Gregor asks exactly this question. Participation is the principle here: the audience decides how the piece goes. Children aged 6 and over and adults stand on stage with four dancers and discover the Krump dance style together. Gregor developed the choreographic game together with professional Krump dancers and Berlin school classes. Krump emerged on the streets of L.A. as an expression of protest against social inequality and discrimination. For many today it is still a place of refuge, family and community. This is about showing, supporting and sticking together. Gregor uses exactly this field of tension: I can't help it breaks with the usual roles between audience and performer. The choreography becomes an open, democratic process and the dance becomes a means of communication. This creates a unique experience for the audience with every performance, which makes it clear why you simply can't stop dancing.

“The worlds are merging... The concept [worked] completely... It almost seemed like a kind of force field was building up that supported and electrified everyone.”
Saarbrücker Zeitung, 25.3. 2024, Anja Kernig
"Dancers and audience become a unit on stage... The summary of the evening is consistently positive [and] the enthusiasm of the audience can be felt... Without words, only with gestures [the dancers] communicate with the participants... Without embarrassing demands on the visitors... The dance, which is based on the participation of the audience, becomes a means of communication."
