About event

On the occasion of Dantenì 2025, a day dedicated to celebrating the high poet, the Italian Institute of Culture of Amsterdam presents
Dante's convivial: for which dinner?

Conference by Gandolfo Cascio

With the participation of Bruno Pinchard

The conference of this year is dedicated to a less well -known work to understand Dante and medieval culture: the convivio.

Bruno Pinchaard - one of his maximum experts and curator of the recent French edition (Classques Garnier, 2023) - will offer an in -depth analysis of this intellectual "dinner", conceived by the poet during the first years of his exile. In this unfinished work, Dante presents a complex reflection on poetry, allegorism, politics and philosophical passion. The convivio represents the last great balance of the culture of the high poet before the drafting of the comedy and still continues to invite readers to an open dialogue with Dante's thought.

Gandolfo Cascio, professor and researcher of Italian literature at the University of Utrecht, where he directs the Observatory on Dante Studies project, is a specialist of medieval and Renaissance culture. For this event it will introduce the conference and converse with the speaker, offering new reading keys to understand the importance of the convivio and its impact on European culture.

Bruno Pinchard, philosopher, emeritus professor of the universities, currently a researcher at the CNRS/PSL Center Jean Pépin and president of the Société Dantesque de France, will guide the public in a reflection on Dante and on the topicality of humanistic thought. With a long academic career, he has dedicated his research to philosophy, the history of ideas and the role of rationality in the contemporary world.
