Jeff Wall develops large-format photographic works that combine conceptual rigor with the imagery of painting and cinema. His often staged and precisely composed images range from digital montages and luminous slides to black and white and inkjet prints. Based on art historical, literary and contemporary references, Wall addresses violence, memory and everyday life in formats that he himself describes as “cinematography” and “near documentary”.

He is considered a key figure in the recognition of color photography as an independent art form and was awarded the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography (2006) and the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement (2008). His work has been exhibited internationally, including at MoMA New York, the Tate Modern London, the Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin and the Art Institute of Chicago.
