About event
Curatoria: Andrew Price
dedicated to the unknown is the first individual exhibition of artist Susan Hiller since his death in 2019. With a multimedia practice that has extended for more than five decades, his singular production has taken several forms, from the 1970s collective research to painting, photography, sculpture and audiovisual installations innovative.
Hiller dedicated himself to investigating the ambivalent fascination of our culture for things that come out of the scope of normal and daily understanding. The selected works exploit ideas considered alternative or esoteric, marginalized or overwhelmed: extrasensory perception; belief in mystical powers; The meaning of dreams; automatic writing practices; and collective experiments of subconscious, unconscious and paranormal activity.
The power of their work is not based on defending or rejecting the truth of such phenomena, but in the presentation of the existence of these practices, beliefs and experiences as a "social fact", dating occult aspects of culture to reveal that there is something mysterious under the surface of what, at first, seems simple to understand; Life is full of unknown things.
Exposition organized by the Alvear Museo Helga, Cáceres, in collaboration with culturgest
