About event

✨Commented walk through Karlín with Lynda Zein will take place on the 10. 𝟲. од 1𝟴:00!✨

🌳🏢🏢🏢🏢🏢🌳
What were the main causes of the gentrification of Karlín after the floods of 2002? And what role did the massive privatization of the housing stock or the abuse of the crisis situation by various actors play in the transformation of this post-industrial district?

One of the main effects of the floods was the displacement of the Roma population, which was significantly driven by normative racism. This was used for the stereotypical rendering of this part of Prague, which led to a radical transformation of the socio-economic structure of the place. Come and see the buildings that tell a story about real estate mechanisms, but also carry a different social memory.
🌳🏢🏢🏢🏢🏢🌳

The excursion is based on research and the subsequent exhibition "Pro/Měna Karlín" which took place in 2020 in the ViPer gallery and which was prepared by architects Eliška Málková and Lynda Zein, in collaboration with sociologist Barbora Matysová. You will be guided by Lynda, who, as part of her research at the Academy of Sciences, deals with the instrumentalization of disasters and crises in the neoliberal city.

📍Meeting: on Karlín Square in front of the church
