About event
Inside… Philipp Gropper
Tuesday, 13.1.26 - Time: 8:30 pm - Tickets 15/10 €
“Philipp Gropper’s hauntingly melodic saxophone playing draws on a fluid twelve-tone jazz vocabulary with a restless and probing sense of wonder — something simultaneously old and new.” — London Jazz News
Berlin-based saxophonist Philipp Gropper is one of the most distinctive and uncompromising voices in contemporary European jazz and improvised music. Known for his long-running projects PHILM and TAU, Gropper consistently develops new musical forms that connect sound, society and politics. His music addresses social structures, privilege and global conflict — urgent, physical and deeply expressive.
For Inside…, Philipp Gropper presents two brand-new collectives:
Reznichenko/Haberl/Gropper
Philipp Gropper – tenor sax
Olga Reznichenko – keytar, synthesizer
Andi Haberl – drums, trigger drums, sampler
A collective trio that throws us back into the psychedelic spirit of 1970s krautrock. Experimental, driving and open — all three musicians contribute equally to a sound that leaves wide space for improvisation and transformation.
Kosack/Lichtenberger/Henkelhausen/Gropper
Philipp Gropper – tenor sax
Liz Kosack – synthesizer
Felix Henkelhausen – double bass
Grischa Lichtenberger – electronics, sound design
An electro-acoustic exploration where improvisation meets club-informed electronic textures. With Grischa Lichtenberger’s background in electronic dance music and Liz Kosack’s experimental synth language, this quartet promises a raw, hybrid mix of beats, sound design and acoustic energy.
“Above all, Gropper possesses an archaic, urgent cry on the tenor saxophone — one that reaches the soul directly, without detours.” — Jazzthing
