Pragovka Gallery invites you to the exit from the residency and the presentation of the project The Brass Section by resident artist Ioana Gheorghiu, which will take place on August 6 from 6 pm.
With the project The Brass Section, Ioana Gheorghiu continues her previous work, in which she has long-term devoted herself to material research. In this project, he develops it further through new material experiments set in a local context. Focusing on the brass dust created by copying keys, it explores its potential to become a vehicle for wider discussions about pressing issues of connection, care and social ties.
The routine of collecting brass scraps becomes a kind of relief for a fragmented and divided society, a poetic narrative of bringing people together as reflected in this mechanical activity – particles that allow doors to be opened throughout the city. Small sculptural particles of brass transform into celestial bodies, complex jewelry or otherworldly architecture when viewed close enough.
The Brass Section thus invites the viewer to reevaluate the current possibilities of coexistence – to find space for quiet voices, build new bonds and celebrate diversity. Through material that would otherwise go unnoticed, the author shows that even the smallest fragments can carry the potential for social change.
Ioana Gheorghiu is a Romanian visual artist who uses text and visual arts tools in her work to work on the border between language, sound and body. Her artistic practice is based on a conceptual, slow and rhizomatic approach that connects speculative practice with long-term processes, experiment and documentation.
She has worked in platforms focused on performative research and participated in international programs dedicated to performance, including the Abandoned Practices program in Prague, organized by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, or danceWEB Vienna, which is part of the ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance festival Festival.
She has presented her works at exhibitions and through solo and group performances in institutions and art spaces such as mottobooks (Berlin), Water Museum (Timesvár), Matca Art Space (Cluj), Asociația Minerva (Cluj), NEW NOW Art Space (Frankfurt), Rosas Studios (Brussels), National Dance Center Bucharest, tranzit Bucharest, Anca Poterașu Gallery, WASP, Lateral Art Space, Pilot – Paintbrush Factory (Cluj), Cultural Center Chorbadjisko, Immunology Lab Bucharest, Atelier 35, Platforma Space (National Museum of Contemporary Art), Alfred in the courtyard of the Theater (Prague) or CIAC Pont-Aven. The building is 15 minutes away from the center. Metro B – Kolbenova, tram – Poštovská.

Pragovka Gallery invites you to the open studio presentation and project showcase of The Brass Section by resident artist Ioana Gheorghiu, taking place on August 6 at 6 PM.
With The Brass Section, Ioana builds on her previous artistic practice, in which she has long explored material-based research. In this project, she further develops this inquiry through new material experiments rooted in the local context. Focusing on the brass dust produced during key cutting, she investigates its potential to become a catalyst for broader discussions on connection, care, and social relationships.
The routine of collecting brass residue becomes a form of relief for a fragmented and divided society - a poetic narrative about bringing people closer together, reflected in the very mechanical process that produces the particles enabling doors to be unlocked throughout the city. When observed up close, these tiny sculptural fragments of brass transform into celestial bodies, intricate jewellery, or otherworldly architectures.
The Brass Section invites viewers to rethink contemporary possibilities for living together by creating space for quiet voices, fostering new connections, and celebrating diversity. Through a material that would otherwise go unnoticed, the artist demonstrates how even the smallest fragments can hold the potential for social transformation.
