About event

The unique acoustic space of the former chapel, the organ, the unique Steinway and the atmosphere of the Atria served as sources of inspiration for Irena and Vojtěch Havel's latest album Four Hands (Animal music, 2024). The series of compositions was also recorded directly in the Atrium, and is now returning to the place of origin in a live performance by the author's tandem.

After the concert, you are invited to sit and share a musical experience in the cafe directly with the creative duo, there will also be possible to buy the album as 2 LP or CD.

The legendary musical duo - married couple Irena and Vojtech Havelovi have been working together since the mid-1980s. From the beginning, they were characterized by an unorthodox approach to compositional procedures and interpretation techniques and gradually created their own unclassifiable, stylistically multi-layered musical language, which is nevertheless accessible to listeners and has found its fans far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.

On the new album Four Hands, Havel brings 19 new original compositions in which piano and organ sound, sometimes together, sometimes separately, but always with four hands. The two spouses naturally complement each other while playing and create one musical organism. The album is characterized by repetitive motifs inspired by minimalism and a layered melodiousness with even a meditative character. They have recorded a number of profile albums that have created a response at home and abroad. Intensive concert activity has taken them to many corners of Europe, Canada, the USA, and thanks to the collaboration with avant-garde artists and theater artists Petr Nikle and Jana Svobodová, also to Africa and Japan. The album comes after 14 long years since the last album with a new repertoire (Smyčcem, 2010) and only one year since the 40th anniversary of their joint musical creation.

The album Four Hands was recorded in Atria Žižkov in collaboration with the sound master by Radek Horák, mastering was done by Adam Karlík at the Sono Records studio.
