About event
'It takes a city to raise a child' is a surprising (audio) performance in playgrounds for adults about raising and growing up in the city. Behind every parent or educator and child there are stories that you cannot see from someone's face. If you look around the playground, at the children playing and the parents sitting on a bench; Do you ever wonder what choices they make? Can they be the parents they want to be? What are they missing? Do they know how to find the right words or response? What do they do if that doesn't work?
You wear headphones and listen to voices that tempt you to look differently at who is in the playground and what is happening. On a playground or schoolyard, all parents and children with different backgrounds, values and dreams come together. The children play with each other, the parents do not. Is parenting an individual matter? Because sometimes parenting can also feel lonely. How can we share the dilemmas and struggles more as parents, educators, neighbors and schools or talk about them? And how do we as an environment care for the children (and parents) of the city?
You will be taken into honest, recognizable, funny and moving situations of parents and educators from the city.
With music and songs by Miriam van Dijk!
