Frankfurt an der Oder, late 1970s: For the young crane operator Tina, there is nothing more beautiful than the limitless view from above. She dreams of finding space for herself, her husband Mischa and their baby in the new apartment blocks. But the future looks different. Mischa, whose great passion is music, does not return after a concert in the West in 1986, and Tina's world collapses. When the Wall falls, she flees into a false sense of happiness - leaving her child behind alone.
Decades later, in reunified Germany, an author takes an unloved job at a newspaper. She becomes pregnant, and when her child's father abandons her shortly after the birth, she also makes an existential decision.
Yvonne Zitzmann was born in Frankfurt (Oder) in 1976. After studying German and psychology in Potsdam, she wrote for various print media. She has been a freelance author since 2010 and writes poetry, prose, radio plays and literary translations (from Russian). Her first novel “Days of Forgetting” received outstanding press praise (“Wonderful novel debut” DIE ZEIT; “A Discovery” SRF 2 Kultur). The novel “The foxes have pits, the birds have nests” followed in 2022. Yvonne Zitzmann received the Brandenburg State Art Prize in 2014 and was nominated for the Uwe Johnson Prize in 2021.
