The GAVU cinema is a projection program in the premises of AVU Veletržní presenting the art of the moving image. Another of the events presented under the banner of Kino GAVU will be a lecture by Jáchym Šidlák and the premiere of his video essay Towards Eremos: Form, Emptiness, Posthumanism.

How can posthumanist cinematography decenter the human perspective, but also offer a viewer experience that is palpably does it present an absence of cognition? How to deal with the situated viewer experience when researching audiovisual works that question human standards of time and space?

Lecture by Jáchym Šidlák from the Department of Film Studies of the Faculty of Film Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Warsaw, based on his research residency in etc. the gallery will also serve as an introduction to the video essay Towards Eremos: Form, Emptiness, Posthumanism, dealing with the films Notes from Eremocén (2023, dir. Viera Čákanyová) and Spící lůno (2017, dir. Scott Barley). The fifteen-minute video essay represents a reconstruction of two formative viewer experiences and, at the same time, an attempt to use this medium not only to analyze given film objects, but also to productively lend and "remix" their affective (i.e. bodily or emotional) dimension.
The video essay will be shown in English with Czech subtitles.
