About event
In the popularization lecture, we will clearly explain how the brain creates an image of the world from the activity of the retina in the eye. We will show that vision in the brain does not run only one way: there are two main visual streams. One helps us to recognize what we see (object, face, scene), the other rather deals with where things are, how they move and how we can manipulate them (position, movement, orientation). The important thing is that these streams do not work separately - they constantly communicate with each other and involve memory, for example, when we recognize familiar places. We will show the results of experiments with unique data obtained using electrodes inserted directly into the human brain. We will look at how it is possible to measure the activity of brain regions and discuss what is going on in the head when we look at the world around us. We'll discuss how the brain combines object recognition with our spatial memory, how perception differs from attention, and why we often see what we want to see. There will be space for questions and discussion.
