About event
➡️ If the EU economy grows as it has so far, Europeans will experience less prosperity, and as a result less equality, security and freedom to decide our destiny. These are also the conclusions of the more than 400-page analysis by economist Mario Draghi, containing over 100 recommendations on how to avoid stagnation.
Member states now have the opportunity to reverse the economic slump in their hands. Draghi offers many suggestions for improvement, I consider the most important with him:
1️⃣ More innovation (back) in Europe
2️⃣ Economy for decarbonisation
3️⃣ Increasing security and reducing dependencies
On the table are initiatives for improving the single market and capital markets, supporting research and development, appropriate rules for cheaper electricity, effective use of clean technologies or fulfilling its defense obligations and strengthening European independence in critical areas.
All this cannot be done without fundamental reforms, including the way of decision-making in the EU. And it will also require large investments. Draghi's report, based on a high-quality analysis that few contradict, thus focuses not only on economic prosperity, but on the entire future direction of the common Union.
We will debate strengthening European competitiveness and our future on 🗓️Thursday 31.10. from 6:30 p.m. in the 📍Opera at Salvátorská 931/8 in the Old Town with economist and chief economist of Raiffeisenbank Helena Horská and deputy director of the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy Viktor Daňek, moderated by economic editor from Seznam Zpráv Jiří Nádoba.
