Author's project by Jan Horák is based on the life and work of the American poet and novelist Sylvia Plath and is the last part of a loose trilogy dedicated to artists of the twentieth century. The first part consisted of the production Church inspired by the life and work of Luis Ferdinand Célin, which was the very first production of Studio Hrdinů. The second part of the trilogy is the production The Golden Section, inspired by the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima.
From the small work of Sylvia Plath, the need to express one's destiny in the world that surrounded her is clearly visible. And above all with the extraordinary poetry collection Ariel, but also in prose with the short novel Under the Glass Bell. Plath offers the world an intimate confession of a woman who has decided that she is/will be an artist. Among other things, this decision has its naively sullen appearance, which exposes the fact that real artists are rarely born artists. In her last creative phase, the tragically heightened conflict of an extremely vulnerable young woman with the conditions in which she found herself, from which she wrote, and to which she could not adapt due to her hypersensitive nature, is clearly visible.
They didn't want to we have created a biographical tribute to the author. There are many topical dimensions to Sylvia Plath's fate that we wanted to accentuate. Our effort was to create an autonomous world of a person on the edge of reality and a dream, who is looking for his place in this world and, as part of this effort, summons demons that he cannot fight. .
Pavlína Štorková won the 2022 Theater Critics Award for Female Performance of the Year for her role as Sylvia Plath in this production.
