Jan Hybner: Opravy knih – přednáška s praktickými ukázkami

As part of the lifelong education program at UMPRUM, there will be a lecture with practical examples of Book Repair, which Jan Hybner will give to the participants. The lecture is open to those interested from the general public.

The lecture will focus on book repair: especially on mechanical repairs of book binding materials (paper, textiles, leather, plastics) and repairs of damaged book binding structure (decayed book block, torn boards and spine, etc.). Basic options for chemical-technological treatment of book materials (cleaning, disinfection, deacidification, hardening) will also be mentioned. Last but not least, the issue of aesthetic interventions during repairs and modification of tracks after repairs will be raised. The lecture should include a discussion and sharing of experience in the field of book repair, joint consultation of a repair plan for specific damaged books, etc. The lecture will take place in a theoretical form (explanation, projection of images, technical illustrations and texts). The explanation will be interspersed with small practical examples.

For whom the lecture is intended: The lecture is intended both for those who deal with book corrections or those commissioning corrections, as well as for complete beginners. This is a professional introduction with practical implications to the issue of repairing damaged books.

Mgr. Jan Hybner Ph.D.: The lecturer is a teacher of book binding and an artistic and technical worker at the University of Applied Arts. He repairs books in his private workshop in Halouny.
