Jan Pavel II.: Život, teologie a historická role - PhDr. Walter Bartoš

The lecture will focus on the personality of Pope John Paul II, his career from his childhood in Poland through priestly service to the election of the Pope in 1978. His thinking will be analyzed in the context of the second Vatican Council, his approach to theological and philosophical issues and his emphasis on human rights and freedom of conscience. Particular attention will be paid to its role in the fall of the Iron Curtain and the support of the Solidarity movement, which contributed to the disintegration of communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe. The lecture will offer both the historical reflection of its pontificate and its permanent legacy for the church and the world.
