About event
Jana Šturdíková likes to work on projects that could be described as "problematic" in the context of social discussion. In the work Châteaux according to ours, she divided the abandoned and dilapidated mansions in Slovakia according to their last use, aroused widespread responses from the general public and pointed out the unflattering state of our cultural heritage. With the DOM project, mapping the transformation of a functionalist house in Bratislava, she drew attention to the overlooked, insensitively modified and often suppressed values of modernist architecture. In the latest file, using the example of the widely publicized felling of 85 trees for the purpose of building two family houses (or apartment buildings?) in a lucrative part of the city on Bratislava's castle hill, he shows that when financial and power interests meet, greenery, despite the use of all available legal means to protect it, does not stand a chance. to absurd proportions. Humorously and sensitively, it seeks a solution to a problem that goes beyond the boundaries of the domestic environment: not only the future of our planet, but also our human life depends on how we treat greens.
The exhibition has an artistic and educational character. It artistically processes the theme of (un)thought-out densification of the city. At the same time, it builds civic awareness and informs how to prevent controversial logging and construction and to take an active interest in the events in the environment in which we live.
The commented tour will be led by the author of the exhibition, Jana Šturdíková, and the head of the gallery, Martin Kleibl. You will also learn a lot of interesting information about the life of trees and greenery in the city, about ecological construction and sustainable development, which was provided to us by arborist Michal Pacalaj and other experts from the relevant fields for the purposes of this exhibition.
DKP Gallery is currently one of two galleries in Petržalka. It is managed by the Petržalka district. It gives space to contemporary visual art, diverse interdisciplinary projects and creates a cultural and artistic community in this location, which you also support with your visit :-).
The event is suitable for families with children.
We look forward to meeting you.
Entrance is free.
This project was created with the financial support of the Art Support Fund, the Capital City of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava, and the Bratislava Self-Governing Region
